Sawa Missions and Service Learning Trips are a great opportunity for you to serve with Rafiki in Western Kenya. As a volunteer, you work alongside Sawa local team of staff and volunteers on different projects. Each team or individual is unique. You get to choose the area of service based on your passion, interest and skills. Opportunities to serve include Rafiki Afya Farm, LightHouse Academy, SomaSawa Program, Youth Hub, Economic empowerment projects, and Community Health clinic. Mission teams are a vital part of our work and create a lasting impact.
Who can serve
Individuals, church groups, college teams, college interns, High school students, graduate interns, women groups, employer team building groups and families are welcome to serve with Sawa Length of service may be arranged from short term (10 days to 6 months) to long term (6 months to 5 years). Do you want to serve through missions but cannot travel to Kenya? Your resources can support a missionary who is currently serving in Kenya or is willing to travel to Kenya.

1. Education Service Learning Trip
Dates: January 1-17, 2023
Program: SomaSawa Program in Kisumu, Kenya
Who can Travel: College students, Individuals.
Cost: $4200 (estimate)
Activities:
Teacher Training (1 day)
College students can sit in the training
College students support group activities during training
Non-education majors will help with the registration and program logistics
Literacy and Numeracy assessment (1 -2 days)
1 day training for college students
Conduct one on one Math assessment to students (not literacy)
Help with student groupings
Program implementation in classrooms (5 -7 days)
Work with class teacher – teacher assistant
Work with students in groups
Day Trip to Special Education Schools and LightHouse Academy, a school managed by Sawa Africa
Safari and local sight seeing (2 days)

2. Community Service Mission Trip
Dates: December 20th to March 30th
This trip is flexible and costumed to individuals or teams interested to serve. Opportunities to serve include:
Education – Literacy and Numeracy in 3rd to 6th grade.
Girls and Women Empowerment – Supporting Girls and Young women in Vocational program; Computer Skills and Soft Skills support.
Water Project – Community support on use of safe water; supporting water social enterprise project.
Food Security – Supporting Women farmers and growers.
Community Health – Supporting Community Health Workers.
VBS – Children programming with games, activities, songs and fun.
